Reason for Tier Placement

Nigeria is ranked as a Tier 2 country which is a country whose government does not fully comply with the TVPA’s minimum standards but is making significant efforts to bring itself into compliance with those standards. Nigeria is placed on Tier 2 because while they do not meet the Trafficking Victim Protection Act (TVPA) minimum standards, they have adopted considerable effort to align and comply with the standards. The Nigerian government have increasingly ramped up the effort to meet the TVPA standards such as convicting complicit officials. The Nigerian government through the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Person (NAPTIP) launched minimum standards and guidelines to aid the trafficking victims.
