BBST210_ character development
Each student is asked to reflect on the readings and lectures as we progress through the semester. On the assigned day, the student is asked to turn in a character reflection paper following the guidelines below. The paper will be submitted on Canvas. The student is asked to reflect on his/her heart and how they have been impacted this semester through class to better understand and love God and neighbor and fulfill His mission. In order to prepare for writing the essay the student should do the following:
- a) Spend one half hour meditating and praying over 2 Corinthians 2:5-6:2.
- b) Write a 2-page essay (12pt Times New Roman, double spaced) summarizing your thoughts, emotions, insights as you sought the Lord during this time. This character essay can discuss specific ways that God met you thought the semester, or during your time of meditation on 2 Cor. I am looking for your sincere thoughts, and feelings, on how God has been working in your life.
I had to read 2 Corinthians 2:5-6:2 several times in order to begin understanding what Paul was talking about. It is possible that Paul does not mention the person’s name who sinned, nor the people who were withholding forgiveness so the audience is able to put themselves in either position. I have definitely experienced both sides. This section taught me that it is ok to be angry if it is for a justified reason but holding onto that anger for too long can become problematic for everyone involved. I especially have trouble forgiving myself for past mistakes. The more I dwell on my wrongdoings the less room there is for God’s love in my life. Consequences are real but forgiveness is too. It is possible to receive both and mistakes do not minimize my own value in God’s eyes.
Through the new covenant we are made to be living proof of God’s goodness. We are not supposed to live blindly, bound by a law but share our stories of transformation. Turning towards God is the only way to experience transformation. We have been empowered by the Holy Spirit to live life differently.
I had a really difficult time this semester, both socially and academically. I was closed off
