Description

The Bedford Anthology American Literature, Volume 1, Second Edition, Liberty University, 2nd Edition – 1 Year Option pp. 107-119, 120-136, 142-170, 171-184,  A Description of New England.

a few things to take into account: 1. The paper still does not focus on the ways in which Smith and Bradford view the American wilderness, i.e., the nature of the New World circa 1610-1620. The paper needs to address, then, what each author says about the natural world in their writings.

  1. You mention elected  leaders and the nation. When these two men were writing, there was no United States of America or elected leaders as such. The essay misses the correct historical context.

  1. Racial injustices and Civil War have nothing to do with Bradford’s description of the landscape of Cape Cod (in November) as “hideous and desolate.”

Sorry for all the comments their just notes from failed attempts: another piece of feedback: keep focus on what Smith and Bedford say about NATURE (the natural world, the “wilderness) in their work. Neither man had any idea about “American” identity or the “United States” because colonial settlement had just begun for English in America.
