[Answered] Read WH Auden’s poem “September 1, 1939”

Description

  1. Compare this poem to an earlier (anti)war poem we read this semester, “Dulce et Decorum Est.”
  2. What are the three evils that Auden identifies? How does this compare to some of the authoritarian tendencies we saw in Modernism ?
  3. This poem was widely republished in newspapers etc. after 9/11.  Why is that?

Solution

The poem September 1, 1939, and Dulce et Decorum Est. were all composed in response to the second world war. However, several differences are seen as the poem September 1, 1939, is more concerned with the United States as it took a neutral position in the world war………………Purchase the link to access the full answer @$5
