Professional Integrity : Ethics
This week we read about professional integrity. It is the first of what I would call “more complex” issues. Generally, I would define these as those that have many correct answers or no easy way to break the question into smaller ones that could be more easily handled. Or ones in which each side has a vested interest in being correct.
Think about the following questions that were posed in the reading. Would you be willing to have as your doctor someone that was involved in executing prisoners? Is the role of a physician consistent with being allowed to participate in an execution? If not, how should it be regulated to make sure that some of the problems that have been occurring during executions do not continue (search online)?
Please answer these questions and include any other response you might have in a few paragraphs. Make sure you use at least one of the eight bioethics principles in your writing to back up your argument (beneficence, non-maleficence, confidentiality, truthfulness, autonomy, informed consent, distribution and lastly allocation). You must also use at least one peer-reviewed source, appropriately referenced (APA format), in your response. This includes citations where appropriate in your essay. I’m looking for 500 words or more in all to satisfy completion of this discussion (10 points). This is due by the current due date.
After I have assessed your submission, I will open the discussion for an additional week. I would like you to read at least two other student’s post and respond to their thoughts critically, but respectfully. At least 100 words in your response please (5 points each).
